Episode 45 turns back to
AMC's The Walking Dead for their return from a
brief hiatus to finish out the second half of season 3. The episode is
titled "
The Suicide King" and we are seeking your thoughts on what that
title means. Opening with a bang, the show picks up immediately from
where they left off at the end of 2012, with Daryl and Merle facing off
in Woodbury's gladiatorial arena, surrounded by blood-thirsty
townspeople and a very angry Governor. From that point onward, we see
the groundwork being laid for the conflicts that will surely shape the
rest of season 3 of our favorite zombie show. Listen to our

Hi Guys. The suicide king is probably named after the playing card. The one eyed king in a standard deck is often called the suicide king because he is holding a knife to his head.
ReplyDeleteIn one of his books (Prometheus Rising I think) R. A. Wilson theorises that we go for these psychos as our leaders because we think "just look how badly he treats us, just think what he will do to our enemies".
ReplyDeleteAlso as you guys point out the parent child dynamic is a big part of it.
Forgot to say that I really enjoy these shows and appreciate the time you put into them. Down here in New Zealand we are running about a week behind you guys. I listen to the podcast straight after each show. No one else I know watches the show, so thanks.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the scene with Andrea's pep-talk fell flat on its face. The cheesy speech seem terribly in character, and the crowd's reaction didn't sell it at all. Maybe the idea is that the citizens of Woodbury are so sheltered that they find this "when they write the history books" line appealing, but I didn't expect the crowd, once set in motion, to do an about-face that quickly. It seemed like the writers were really in a hurry to put that plot thread away, at least temporarily. The episode seemed to be back and forth between some really great scenes and some really rushed transitions.
