Episode 120 - Choke Me Here

The Z-Realm is back to take a look at episodes 12 and 13 from season 7 of AMC's The Walking Dead. Spoiler alert!!! We didn't like them very much.  We agree that there is 100% too many CGI deer in the show, but that is just one of our issues. We go into it in great detail and then wander for a long time in very deep, dark forest of ideas. Come along with us and let us know what you think. Write to mail@z-realm.com or post a message on our Facebook page.

  1. Yeah, episode 12 just didn't land at all for me, either.

I did like 13, though. Especially the flash-forward scene at the front of the episode. It looks like a provocation: Richard packing up a single melon to give to the Saviors, I was thinking maybe this is the moment that kicks off the war in earnest. But it ends up being almost the opposite, it's a capitulation.

I also like the ambiguity as to whether Morgan buys Richard's argument (that they need to capitulate insincerely, then backstab the Saviors later). Is Morgan's "we get it" line honest and he's willing to do anything to preserve the peace? Or did Morgan just see that Richard's apology wouldn't be believed and the only way to have real credibility is to straight-out kill a guy. It's not just that, though.

I also was fine with Ezekiel having his monologue about madness. I thought that added to the story/character stuff that was going on (Morgan, Richard, and Ezekiel are all approaching madness in their own way). There's some justification for the Kingdomers letting down their guard there: Richard has no problem letting down his guard because the whole "someone blocked the road" was his ruse in the first place, and the others are following his lead.
